Moving in Dubai
The paperwork behind a Dubai move, explained
Most moving delays in Dubai come from a missing permit or a lift that was not booked. Here is what to sort out, and when.
Do I need a move-in permit in Dubai?
In most communities and towers, yes. Emaar communities such as Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches and Emaar South ask you to apply through the Emaar One app or Sakani at least one business day before the move, and security can refuse entry without it. Nakheel uses the My Nakheel app, and many other buildings issue their own permit through building management.
Which documents does the permit need?
Tenants usually need their Ejari, Emirates ID and passport with visa page. Owners may need the title deed. Some communities also ask for the moving company's trade licence, which we send you for the application.
Do I have to book the service lift?
In many apartment towers you do, and the permit often sets the hours you can move. Tell us your building and we plan the crew around your lift slot.
How do I move DEWA to my new home?
Use DEWA's Move-to service with your new Ejari and current account number. DEWA says the new home is usually connected within 15 working hours, so apply a few days before you move.
How much do movers and packers in Dubai cost?
The price depends on how much you own, the floor and lift access, villa or apartment, how much packing you need, the distance and the day. Weekends and month ends are the busiest. We give you a written price after a free survey, in person or by video call.
How long does a home move take?
A studio or 1 bedroom flat is usually done in half a day, a 2 or 3 bedroom flat in about a day, and a large villa can take one to two days.

Will the price change on moving day?+
No. The written price we give after the survey is the price you pay, as long as the items and addresses stay the same.
Are packing materials included?+
Yes. Boxes, bubble wrap, stretch film and tape are included in a full packing move.
Do you take apart and rebuild furniture?+
Yes. Beds, wardrobes and tables are dismantled, moved and put back together at your new home.
Do you move on weekends?+
Yes. Weekends book up first, especially at the end of the month, so message us early.
How early should I book my move?+
One to two weeks ahead is ideal. That leaves time for the survey and your community move permit.
Can you help with my move permit?+
